Hey everyone, hopefully here I will be able to shed some light on how to successfully create a referral video for YouTube.
A. How do I start?
First, you have to decide whether you want to actually speak in the video or use text to convey your message. I went with the latter, so I will describe how to create a video using text.
B. Content
1. Make your video short, maximum of 2-3 minutes. Most people will get distracted with a long video and will immediately tune out.
2. Emphasize certain things about Swagbucks
- It's FREE
- You can get free Amazon gift cards or iTunes gift cards
- No credit cards or money needed
- You need to spend a minimal amount of time a day: just a minute or two to search
- You are getting rewarded for something you do everyday - searching - and the search results come from Google.
3. Make sure you are believable. Don't make it sound like Swagbucks is giving money away for the heck of it because then no one will believe you.
Tell them that swagbucks makes money when people search, except they reward their users for searching so it is a win-win situation
C. How do I make the video?
1. I found that the easiest way to make a video was to do it on Microsoft Powerpoint
2. Simply make slides with all your content and add animations to make it look good. Then use a screen recorder (several free versions online, I myself used a trial version of Camstaia Studio) to record the powerpoint.
D. Titles
Now you have the video done, it should be 2-3 minutes long.
1. Time to decide on a title. The title should be words or phrases you think that people on YouTube will search. Don't name the video: "Swagbucks guide" or "What is Swagbucks." If someone on YouTube is searching for a free gift card, the last thing that will come to their mind is 'swagbucks' unless they heard of it before.
Thus, good titles are simply, "Free Amazon Gift card" or Free iTunes gift card, etc.
2. Try to to think outside the box for the title. Although Swagbucks doesn't offer nexon game cards, a good title may be "Free Nexon Cash." In the description, tell the viewer that they can get free nexon gift cards by getting free amazon gift cards via Swagbucks. You see what I am trying to say...almost anything that can be bought from Amazon is fair game as a title idea.
E. Tags
Once you have the title ready, simply search that title in YouTube. For example, lets say that my videos name was "Free Amazon Gift Card." Now I would search that in YouTube and look at the first 1-3 videos that came up. Clearly, those videos have good tags (for those of you who don't know, YouTube ranking is based mostly on your title and tags).
Look at the tags of the top YouTube videos for that search. Then based on those tags, make your own set by mixing and matching.
F. Upload the video to your account.
Try to have music so the user doesn't get bored. Youtube offers several catchy tunes that you can add to your video for free.
Hopefully this basic guide of Youtube will help you get started.
